From the article I've garnered that this has been occurring in Queensland already. Does anyone know of any studies/statistics indicating this helps reduce knife related crimes?
Seems super fucking annoying to have to go through and I am generally for a reduced police presence in public places.
I'm ok with what they've come up with. While I've carried pocket knives or a Leatherman for work, I've never carried them into the entertainment areas where all the pubs/clubs are. And if you are working in those areas, you will still be permitted to carry your knife.
It's a compromise between just banning knives and stopping people taking them out on the town where they will be tempted to bring them out in an altercation.
