I don't have proof for this technique but when I am downloading a big game and the screen needs to be kept on, I just go to desktop mode, open up a picture of just black on full screen (turn off your lights to make sure all the pixels are off), and this seems to be a good enough solution to at least this specific situation.
user11711: May I ask why? Not only does it happen but why would one be ignorant if they’re worried about it? Especially when it’s been confirmed that mitigation techniques used in other screens are lacking on this one.
Quajeraz: Because it'll take an astronomically long time for it to do anything. Someone did a test, it took 1500 hours straight of a static, unchanging image displayed at max hdr brightness, and it was only just barely visible on a solid colored image.
As well, it’s pretty clear that it does occur correct? That being said why is it ignorant to worry about if it’s a well established issue with any OLED screen?
To be clear, you’re mixing up 2 different videos by the way. It took 750 for the HDR deck and 1,500 for the non HDR one. Regardless, if someone is frequently downloading things in Steam OS leaving it on overnight on the download menu, it’s fair to say it’ll eventually get burned in. Especially since, as it’s been established, burn in is cumulative. As in, sort of like candles, the more that color is used, the more it fades, red being the quickest.
By no way am I telling you or anyone else what to do. I’ve done my research and I rather take preventative measures, why would I be ignorant to do so? By the way in that linked video, he asks Valve if they use pixel shifting or anything of the like (commonly used to prevent burn in) and they confirm the deck does not.
user11711: Thanks to MagicBlack, no I won’t. But those who are ignorant about burn in or said program might run into said issues in the future leaving the download screen overnight. It’s not just about static images, static huds will also do this. OLED burn in is cumulative, Plasmas and CRTs are the ones specifically prone to static images.
sweaterguycuddles: I want to learn. The more people are open to have discussions, the less ignorant me, and everyone will be. The path to truth begins with asking the honest question.
