[Fabrizio Romano] Mason Mount, undergoing medical tests at Carrington right now as expected — then he will sign until June 2028 with an option until June 2029.
As United fans we don't get that many good news with all the drama around Glazers, problematic players and transfer sagas. So I just allow myself to be happy about him joining and I hope he will smash it.
I'm really glad to see we got him over the line before preseason. Hope we get a GK and Striker in ASAP too.
We struggled immensely at the beginning last year because we made our transfers very, very late into the window. Including when the season had officially kicked off.
I'm not a United fan so correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't that been a theme for ages for you? When was the last time you made your signings early in the window? Mourinho's first summer with Zlatan et al maybe?
It's one of the reasons why United supporters say we're not a very well run club. Our transfer nous has been subpar since Fergie and David Gill retired
Do you know if you've finally employed a Data Analysis service of some kind or are you still lagging behind in that department?
I remember back when United signed Wan-Bissaka Woodward was bragging about how he was chosen from a shortlist of 804 options and StatsBomb Podcast I believe it was were amazed that he didn't realize that it wasn't actually a thing to brag about but actually indicated an incredibly wasteful and inefficient scouting setup.
Honestly I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if we're still behind the times. Rangnick often pointed out how inefficient the club was. LvG and Mourinho have also said similar things.
Last year we sacked senior members of our scouting staff just before the summer window opened, the ineptitude runs deep at our club 😅
It's very possible United is the last PL club without proper Data Analytics at this point, though I don't know about Luton to be fair. Many of the even smaller-to-medium size teams are Statsbomb customers now. Brentford, Brighton, Liverpool and Arsenal have their own proprietary departments and algorithms. Man City hired Laurie Shaw a couple of years ago to build one for them. I had hoped something had changed at Utd but I suppose nothing really should be expected to happen without new owners.

That was hilarious timing. Though if I remember correctly those were the people who hadn't ordered a single scout report on Nkunku while he was available so you know, maybe not a massive loss in the end.
I think he will do well. Not a player to build your midfield around but a strong all-rounder who's tactically sharp and a great presser. Home grown too.
It surprises me a little you haven't pushed harder for Caicedo, but maybe FFP makes it too hard to get over the line? Getting a backup/long term replacement for Casemiro has to be pretty crucial, I would have thought.
