MultiplicityPOE here, I help run the POE Discord and POE subreddit
With reddit.com/r/pathofexile and other subreddits going dark due to Reddit's API Changes, it made sense to me to have an alternative platform to post on, possibly just during this window, but maybe beyond, who knows
Hello. I really don't understand this new network yet. Fediverse? Lemmy?
Fediverse is the whole thing and Lemmy, Mastodon and all those others are part of it?
@[email protected] what do you mean with that it's not linked to other Lemmy instances?
I thought I could use the account I created here use on all the other things too?
Lemmy instances need to be "connected" to each other so that the users from other instances can interact. I read about it real quick yesterday, but it seems that it's not "magical". It seems some instances are not connected on purpose, so they are closed communities. Also the instance owner can choose to block some instance.
Saw your comment on whitelisting Kbin before the sub went private, which is great to hear it's where I originally registered.
As a note for any users who may want to register on Kbin, it's having cloudflare issues with connecting to Lemmy servers though so Kbin users will have to wait until that's resolved or just register a new account.
It's an interesting setup. Each instance can act like their own version of reddit, and have their own communities or "subreddits" to divide up the instance, or each instance can act like their own subreddit to the greater lemmy community. Since it's possible to connect to other Lemmy instances, if the instance you belong to allows it, you can create an account here and then go to other instances to use their gaming community. It can also connect to non-Lemmy federated content like Kbin and Mastodon.
The weird part here is that there can be fracturing. There could be a PoE community on Kbin, there could be a PoE community within Lemmy.ml, or Lemmy.world, and there could be a dedicated PoE instance here made up of multiple PoE communities.
