Try Nitter/Squawker? I rarely visit the big sites directly anymore. Quite a few OSS web and mobile clients available
For Reddit there is Stealth which scrapes old.reddit, since reddit canned thirdparty apps
I'm staying away completely.
I stopped using Twitter as soon as the 3rd party app ban happened and Reddit once it was clear they weren't backing down from their effective killing of the same.
Last I heard Nitter got canned due to Twitter API changes
