I feel wifi is more simple though? No need to run cables through walls, or worse, out in the open or use additional equipment like switches. Just plug it in and connect.
Wifi is adding more steps, hence less simple from the perspective of the network. Walls and such being in the way do add complexity, but the wire won't notice that it's going trough a wall.
Is it more simple in that it requires less physical stuff. Sure. But it's impossible to get the wifi to be as good as wired provided you're jacked into the modem (switch) itself.
It can get almost as good though with modern tech.
I'm limited by my ether port and switch to Gigabit, usually ~950 Mbps, but I can get ~1100 Mbps, which is the ISPs limit, over WiFi. So if you only have Gigabit ethernet components, but a bit over Gigabit internet, WiFi can be faster. Not nearly as stable, though.
The highest ping is like 3 ms, that's not going to make a difference when my ping is 120ms. Let me remind you the pings over the wire can spike a millisecond too
That does depend heavily on the RF environment you're in. If your house is more remote and not surrounded by other wifi networks it will be pretty stable, plenty good enough for online gaming.
