Not sure why you were downvoted.. Some places don't allow bikes in sidewalks
They're being downvoted, because almost anytime anyone mentions cycling on the internet, there's will be some braindead comments claiming cyclists always break this rule or that, and it really isn't helpful to anyone.
Really, bicycle folks are no different that motor vehicle folks. We all the follow the traffic laws we want to.
Even the police.

I wonder how many of those same places also don't have safe cycling infrastructure.
If given a choice between a protected bike lanes and a wide multiuse path, or a bumpy sidewalk, nobody would choose the sidewalk. Hell, I see pedestrians walking in bike lanes and not on sidewalks, so there's something wrong with sidewalks! LOL
But if someone is on a road without a bike lane or shoulder, with traffic going 80 km/h, you bet I would want them to hop on a sidewalk that sees no pedestrians ever.
