What is it? Matrix is a chat / video calling / communications service. It can replace WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, iMessage, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, etc. It is part of the Fediverse, meaning you can use your account on the reformed.social instance to communicate with anyone on any other matrix instance, so your social circle can go beyond just those on reformed.social.

Matrix needs other software to use as a chat client, as matrix is just the server itself. That's where Element comes in. There is a web version of Element that is hosted by Reformed.social, or you can download and use the application on your desktop or phone.

Sign Up Information There is not an easy way built into Matrix for me as an administrator to force people to go through an approval process, which means that isn't a simple site that you can go to in order to sign up. The easiest way that I can be a gatekeeper is to have you send a private message to me, either here or on mastodon (@[email protected]), to get an account.
