Tenant after tenant addressed the virtual meeting, describing how COVID-19 has wreaked havoc on their lives and finances over the last year.
The director of advocacy and legal services at Advocacy Centre for Tenants Ontario, said it's "absurd" to evict people during a health crisis that has left many unable to pay rent due to lost income.
"It's bad enough in normal times for people to lose their homes and to be treated unfairly in an administrative proceeding. But it can be life or death in the kind of situation we're in now," Hale said in a recent interview.

Canadian Opposition Leader Erin O’Toole Claimed Residential School Architects Only Meant to ‘Provide Education’ to Indigenous Children
pressprogress.ca Erin O’Toole Claimed Residential School Architects Only Meant to ‘Provide Education’ to Indigenous ChildrenO’Toole shared tips with Ryerson campus conservatives over Zoom on how to win a debate against Liberals about residential schools
This is a complete rejection of reality and a slap in the face to survivors of the genocidal residential schools system.
> In Canada, the Indian residential school system was a network of boarding schools for Indigenous peoples. The network was funded by the Canadian government's Department of Indian Affairs and administered by Christian churches. The school system was created for the purpose of removing Indigenous children from the influence of their own culture and assimilating them into the dominant Canadian culture, "to kill the Indian in the child." Over the course of the system's more than hundred-year existence, about 30 percent of Indigenous children (around 150,000) were placed in residential schools nationally. The number of school-related deaths remains unknown due to an incomplete historical record, though estimates range from 3,200 to upwards of 6,000.
