Server Update 0.18.0 -> 0.18.1
Arpa.dev has now been updated to the latest stable version!
There are some great fixes and additions in this release, so check out the changelogs[1][2] for all the juicy details. Additionally, now that lemmy.ml is no longer on 0.17.4, federation is greatly improved with their instance.
Outgoing email is also now fixed after a brief post-upgrade outage. There was an issue with the postfix-relay config which has now been resolved, and I also configured a new SPF record for the domain.
For those interested, we're currently using SendGrid as a relayhost instead of opening port 25 for SMTP directly on the VPS.
If anybody attempted to sign up during the brief email outage, you may need to try again. Feel free to contact me on matrix if you're having any issues.

Hello arpa.dev!
Greetings reader!
I've set this instance up primarily to gain experience with running federated services and all that it involves. However, registration applications are open and any registered user is free to create a community if they wish.
Right now post/comment/vote federation appears highly inconsistent between all instances. There are some excellent improvements in the current 0.18.1 release candidates that will hopefully alleviate a good number of the issues faced by many instance admins. I will be updating to 0.18.1-stable as soon as possible.
Currently, this instance is on a Vultr VPS (4vCPU & 8GB RAM) as I have some spare credit (enough to keep the lights on for ~10 months at this stage), but once that runs out I'll likely migrate over to Hetzner.
I don't intend to advertise arpa.dev anywhere for now, but if for some reason more users join, I will be happy to allocate more resources to the server.
This community (meta) is dedicated to discussions about arpa.dev itself. Please feel free to use it to suggest improvements for the instance if you have any.
I will be experimenting with optimal instance configurations as I follow Lemmy's development on Matrix and GitHub. If you are an instance admin yourself and would like to chat about your experiences, drop me a line on Matrix (@jack:community.rs).
Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy your stay :^)
