Retrolemmy.com 1 year anniversary!
It happened. Retrolemmy turns 1 as of today, juli 20th.
This year has flown by. But knowing that lemmy only was on 0.18.1 it also feels like such a long time ago. I have learned so much thanks to this site. But still have so, so much to learn.
I want to thank everyone here on retrolemmy and lemmy as a whole for being here. For making this my new home online after the reddit exodos. I want to thank spez (fuck you spez), because without him this amazing place on the internet wouldn't be here. I want to thank @[email protected] for making time to help out here. I want to thank all the mods on the communities. I want to thank my family, for being patient with me when I broke the page again (and again and again) and spent the evening trying to fix it.
Most of all, I want to thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for giving this place a shot, and being here.
To another year of awesome retro fun!
Cheers.

Retrolemmy.com Server upgraded.
Hello,
The server had some stability issues, so I decided it was time to upgrade. The new server has a few more cores, double the memory and a disk upgrade. (the disk upgrade was not needed, but included in the package, and it can't hurt)
I assume most stability issues have been fixed now. If you notice anything, feel free to contact me here on lemmy or reply to this thread.
Thank you for your patience!

Retrolemmy.com updated to 0.19.5
We updated to 0.19.5. This was not as smooth as I had hoped, and due to that the page was offline for almost a day while I had to troubleshoot and figure out what went wrong.
I'm sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused. But as far as I know, we are fully operational.
If there are any other problems, please let me know by sending me a private message, or putting it in the comments under here.
Thanks for your patience.

Welcome new admin: Die4Ever!
I'm happy to announce the new addition to our admin team: @[email protected]
He's mostly known as the owner of mods4ever and all associated projects. Including, but not limited to randomizers for games like Duke Nukem 3D and Unreal, working on Scummvm's Groovie engine, and their lemmy page housing communities for said randomizers and on there you can find your main stop for the "The 7th Guest" game series: [email protected].
He also used to speedrun The 7th Guest.
If you have any questions, you can message him or me directly on here or leave a comment.
Welcome to the team!

Application Questionnaire added to account registration.
After a user created half a dozen accounts in a span of 24 hours to "battle" a ban on a lemmy.world community, I'm regretting to inform that I have added an application questionnaire to the account creation process.
I want this instance to be a inviting and hassle-free home for any enthousiast of the retro kind. And unfortunately this means it's a little less accessible, and might take a bit before your account can be in use.
I will get to your application in due time, and will check regularly every day.
I hope this will catch trolls and obvious abusers more easily before they become a pain in the ass of the mods of communities.
I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
If you have any questions or complaints feel free to reply to this post or send me a message.

Can't follow accounts from Mastodon
This is odd. I usually follow all my Fediverse accounts from my Mastodon one, just so I can boost stuff, keep an eye on what is posted across communities I run, etc (it's not my primary access method, just a bonus so I'm more likely to notice things).
Anyway, on retrolemmy.com I've just noticed if I follow anyone or any community here from Mastodon, it just sits on "follow requested".
There was an issue following from kbin at one point which was also impacting Mastodon, but I've tried following from kbin and it's working fine, so I don't think it's the same problem.
Any ideas?
Edit: this is the old Kbin problem/fix if it helps: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ansible/issues/106
