Soulive are a Funk/Jazz trio from New York. Whils they mostly produce original music, in 2010 they delivered what is possibly my favourite tribute to The Beatles I've ever had the pleasure to listen to. Each track is an instrumental, and I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves The Beatles or Jazz.

The Cat Empire's fourth album delivers a beautiful blend of Rock, Pop, Funk and Soul. I love all of their albums, but there's something about this one that I feel puts it above the rest of their discography.

Déjà Vu is the second studio album to be made by the collaborative efforts of David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash, and the first to include Neil Young. Released in 1970, the record featured three hit singles: Woodstock, Teach Your Children, and Our House. One of the most interesting folk rock groups, CSN/Y is well known for their intricate three- and four-part vocal harmonies.

I’m particularly a fan of this record, as Our House was the first song I danced with my SO with. Teach Your Children might be their best song as far as I’m concerned, if you’re looking to listen to one song to sum up the album (at least imo).

While the group made several more records following, Déjà Vu would stand as the highlight of their band’s years.

Gordon Lightfoot’s ninth album, Sundown is one of his most successful albums, charting #1 on the pop chart in the US. In his native Canada, the album topped the RPM 100 for five consecutive weeks. The title track is one of his most famous songs, reaching similar popularity to The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald (1976) and If You Could Read My Mind (1970), both of which are in very different styles. Another highlight track of the album is Carefree Highway, a personal favourite of mine.

I’m a huge fan of the late Gordon Lightfoot and even got to meet him before (plus I know his old steel guitarist), so I’d be happy to discuss him more. In fact, the name of one of my alt accounts on here is a direct reference to Gord.

If you like the sound of his music, I’d highly suggest checking out Gord’s Gold. It is a different take on a compilation album, since a lot of the songs are re-recorded, allowing for a new take on an old classic. Canadian Railroad Trilogy is probably the best example of this. The song was originally released on his second album, but hearing a matured voice sing the song on Gord’s Gold (plus a more refined instrumentation/arrangement) allows for a bit of a different listening experience compared to the raw, more emotional take from the original. Sundown and Carefree Highway (both from the Sundown album) are both on Gord’s Gold, however neither are re-recorded.

Tom Waits continues his transition that was started in Swordfishtrombones with his 9th outing Rain Dogs in 1985. Some call it his best work and a pivotal move from the singer songwriter’s previous material before he leans into the cathartic carnival barker of bone machine and beyond. A loose concept album about "the urban dispossessed" of New York City, Rain Dogs is generally considered the middle album of a trilogy that includes Swordfishtrombones and Franks Wild Years.

The Jesus and Mary Chain’s debut album, Psychocandy, is considered to be one of the most influential albums of all time. Released in 1985, the album helped to define the shoegaze genre, characterized by its use of distorted guitars, feedback, and lush melodies. Surprisingly Psychocandy was a critical and commercial success upon its release. It reached number 31 on the UK Albums Chart and was certified Gold by the BPI. It is now considered to be one of the most important albums of the 1980s alternative rock / noise rock / indie rock scene.

It's japanese psychedelic jazz fusion based on a 1971 children's book of the same name by Count Ul Del Rico. I don't know what else to say it's just awesome, it has narration from the book that makes it a really fun listen and narrative with great musicianship. Parts of it are serene and calming interspersed with high energy bangers like Seven Goblins and Thunderstorm, it flows together really well without having a stale vibe.
