In the Eugene/Springfield area, the Northwest Youth Corps works with Eugene Springfield Fire to identify neighborhoods that are potentially at risk if a wildfire were to come through. One that has been identified is the Laurel Hill neighborhood near Hendricks Park.
Danny Woodcock, who lives in the area, says that his house was massively overgrown last fall, with some bushes nearly coming in contact with power lines. "I was about to call the City and say, 'Do you think we should have you guys trim that?'" Woodcock said. "That's when [Northwest Youth Corps] came in and saved the day."

Oregon lawmakers on Wednesday voted to end a prohibition on self-serve gas that’s been in place since 1951.
House Bill 2426 would require gas stations to staff at least half of their open pumps for people who want assistance. But it would allow other pumps to be open for self-service.
