Pinus Sylvestris styling - First time really using guy wires (Before pic in comments)

Starting work on a heather!

This is just the preliminary trim, I really liked the movement it had. For sure needs a bit more of a trim but I'm waiting for my wire to arrive before I fully decide where I'm going with it.

I've never seen someone using heather for bonsai (outside of Mexican Heather), does anyone know anything about it? Are there other examples of what people have done?

Made a bunch of seedling cuttings today - Was wondering, what substrate others use for germinating pine? Sifted sand was a success this year.

My attempt at bonsai training pots. Made from ekodeck off-cuts (wood/plastic composite) with mesh stapled to the bottom. Holes are drilled through the side walls to anchor the roots with wire.

Mugo Pine. I wonder if the browning needles are cause for concern or not. I assume it's just last years needles. (Hope this photo is oriented correctly, not sure how to ensure that on this site)
